Step by Step – Artificial Intelligence

Step by step is a series in which complex subjects are explained…step by step. Check out the previous post of the series about learning legal language and thus knowing how to protect your app.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is unknown for many but it holds a very big part of the future and the present. AI is rapidly adapting into many everyday things, organizations and fields. The term itself can seem terrifying and way too complex, but every organization and company should at least consider its benefits.

What is it?

AI is quite self-explanatory; machines are capable of thinking and performing human-like tasks and problems, and the best of all – constantly learning something new autonomously. AI can be categorized into three categories; narrow AI, AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) and Super-intelligent AI, and according to McKinsey Global Institute, it can be separated to five; computer vision, natural language, virtual assistants, robotic process automation and advanced machine learning.

Machine Learning (ML)

ML is a branch of AI and means the process of the machine learning without specific actions made by humans. This means that the machine actually works by itself by learning from the data and improving itself. This learning process is based on patterns and features which give the needed data to predict what would be the next essential step in order to make better decisions and be more beneficial.

Example of AI in YouTube

YouTube is a platform where over 300 hours of video is uploaded every minute and that is obviously an amount which can no longer be sieved without extra help. Thus YouTube has used AI for sieving and has succeeded well. YouTube uses AI to delete violating and harmful videos and has ever since increased their numbers on flagged and reported content, while abbreviating the automatization time on AI. In Q1 of 20198.3. million videos were removed from YouTube from which 76% were done by AI, with 70% of them being identified before anyone had viewed the content.

How does it help mobile apps?

AI can enable uniqueness and safety on another level, and can take the revolution of apps to another dimension. AI can be used for so many occasions depending on the purpose of the App. As actual AI features, you could list five specific features essential to mobile apps; near network, deep learning, big data, machine learning and chatbots. The biggest of them benefits should however be the learning of user behavior. With AI you don’t need any feedback forms from users, but with AI can collect essential data from every aspect of the usage journey. Tracking this behavior also creates a more personalized platform for the user.

AI in every day life

AI can actually be seen in every day actions and platforms. Voice recognition, which is a part of AI, is used in Siri and Alexa, Face ID is using image recognition and social media algorithms, for example Instagram, Pinterest and TikTok, are using AI to customize your feed to your liking. When you are writing an email, and choose the recipient, if you have typed the email address before, the exact one pops up to the screen due to natural language processing. In addition, chatbots are very common today and the growth of chatbots in customer service has been clear.
